Meet your new gardener.

Sam Henry

My love of gardening began with a prize Delphinium (named Daphne) in a raised planter box on our family ranch in Colorado. My level of plant nerddom has drastically increased since. I moved to Seattle in 2015 and instantly fell in love with the native ecology, so much so, I left corporate life and became a horticulturist full time. My passion lies where people and plants intersect — in physical living spaces, in emotional connections to plants, and in edible and medicinal species. This overlap holds Plant Magic.

Science-based Biodynamic Practices

The Horticulture industry hasn’t always been green. My practices have a foundation of scientific horticulture, not influenced by the ecosystem-disrupting overuse of agrochemicals in our backyards. My plantings support native pollinators, birds, and wildlife. I am dedicated to promoting soil health and texture while remaining low-impact during construction. I encourage restoration of site hydrology and keeping rain out of our wastewater systems. I won’t sell you on maintenance work if it isn’t advantageous for the plants involved. Let’s rip out your lawn and restore our environment one patch at a time!
